Ice Rink Photography in Berlin – Olympic Figure Skater Minerva Hase at Dark Matter

Updated: 10 hours ago

In late 2025, we set out to capture world-class figure skater Minerva Hase in a way she’s rarely seen — away from the intensity of Olympic preparation for Milan 2026 and immersed in one of Europe’s most impressive immersive light installations. This ice rink photography project in Berlin took place inside Forest Winterlights by Christopher Bauder, at Dark Matter Berlin, creating a unique fusion between movement, light, and contemporary art.

This project was created as exclusive content for Best of Berlin, celebrating the city’s unique intersection of talent, sport, and visual culture. It represents a new approach to artistic sports photography, where performance meets immersive visual storytelling.

The production itself became a lesson in logistics and persistence:

  • A tight window: Just a few hours between international competitions.

  • A visionary venue: Dark Matter made the impossible possible during their busiest season.

  • A dedicated team: A skeleton crew working with total focus and precision.

The result is a celebration of movement, light, and a “second first time” on the ice for Minerva. This figure skating photography project became more than documentation — it became an artistic interpretation of discipline, beauty, and presence inside a contemporary light installation.

Sometimes, the best work comes from ideas that have every reason to be a “no,” but you turn them into a “yes” anyway. This project reflects my vision of authorial photography in Berlin, where storytelling, emotion, and concept come before convention.

A huge thank you to everyone who made this vision a reality:
